Mark Burgess, President, Creekside Estate Winery: Our business is as fully operational as it can be, and is as accessible as possible — so we're very pleased with the forward thinking on this.

Madeleine Meilleur, Minister of Community and Social Services: And disabled people have more and more disposable income so it's the right business decision.

Mark Burgess: And we've added this ramp with a little, slightly increased elevation and with a hand-hold to make sure that people have access onto the upper deck.

So we've designed it with very, very wide corridors and aisles. The tasting bar has two positions at which people in wheelchairs, for example, can come up and be served.

Bathrooms are fully wheelchair accessible, as well. So, extra large doorways, one level, very little lip.

If we were to have large events here, we built all of these wine cribs, the sales cribs, on castors so that they can all be pushed out and against the wall. And we have tables that we bring in to make sure that anybody — we don't expect that everybody who comes wants to stand for the entire three hours of a visit.

When we built the tasting bar, it was with accessibility in mind so that we have lots of gaps. So, although this is sitting at about 42 inches in height and people can stand for this, those who are wheelchair bound can come and be served immediately here at a height that's reasonable and accessible to them. And we have two stations, one at either end for that purpose.

For those that just want to bypass Retail, and just don't need to be forced to do it, they can come to the outside as well — and we made this especially six feet wide for that purpose. We have the view, but we also have the safety.

Minister Meilleur: Yes, and no barriers.

Mark Burgess: No barriers.

Considerations we had about accessibility, was to make sure that the entire property was accessible — including the barrel cellar. So we have as you noticed when we came down, a gentle slope that can be accessed by virtually anyone. But this is a wonderful barrel cellar opportunity for people to have special events, and it's open to absolutely everybody. So it's nice to have the entire property available.

Businesses out there, who have taken this very seriously, and are building this into their planning and their infrastructure — five years ahead of time-line. So as they do things, they're accommodating all of the needs. And we're very proud of that.
