Noor Hamadeh Elkhayat
Customer Service Representative, RBC

I work as a customer service representative at the Royal Bank and my job includes helping clients with their daily transactions.

What I like most about the job is the fact that I’m working with people ‘cus I’m a people-person.

In Toronto, Ontario Works is delivered through Toronto Employment and Social Services. And we work with a number of employers and community organizations to give people access to jobs and training opportunities.

So, RBC was one of the founding employers and they continue to be a strong supporter, in fact one of our strongest supporters.

When Noor first came to Ontario Works, she had been job searching independently for 10 months.

Our first priority was to address her financial situation, and once that was settled, we put together an employment service plan.

We then scheduled her to attend resume and interview workshops.

Because Noor was able to get the supports that she got from Ontario Works in her time of need, she’s a long way from where she started.

“How are you doing today?”

Faced with increasing debt and the real possibility of losing my accommodation, I began to lose hope and I didn’t know what to do.

Ontario Works - they gave me a hand-up, not a hand out.

I think they help you believe more in yourself, they help you market your skills, and eventually, you get there.

For me, my role right now is indeed a stepping stone and my role is not just a job, it’s a career path.

“Is there anything else I can help you with today?”
“No, that was all.”
“No? Okay, sure. Have a lovely day.”
