On Monday, November 28th, the Board of Directors of Community Living Ajax-Pickering and Whitby (CLAPW) resigned from their duties.
As Minister of Community and Social Services, I understand the vital services that CLAPW provides to individuals with developmental disabilities and their families. Which is why, in light of the board’s resignation, I have taken action in order to maintain services for adults served by this agency and to provide continuity and stability of supports.
Effective immediately, I have appointed a Manager, on an interim basis, to operate and manage the agency in place of the Board of Directors. Christine Park, who was most recently the Regional Executive Director – East, for Kerry’s Place Autism Services, will manage the operations at CLAPW, so that high-quality services and supports will continue to be provided to adults with developmental disabilities in the community.
These actions will have no impact to the services provided by the agency, nor on the staff directly providing those services. The Manager will work together with the qualified staff at CLAPW to continue to provide the full range of services to individuals with a developmental disability, their families and the community.
Christine is a very capable and qualified leader, who has over 30 years of experience in the developmental services sector. I have every confidence in her ability to ensure CLAPW continues to provide the full range of services and supports to the individuals they serve.
My top priority is ensuring the health, safety and well-being of people with developmental disabilities. The appointment of an interim manager through legal means is an exceptional course of action. However, I believe it is a completely necessary one in order to ensure these critical services continue for those who need them the most.
My ministry officials will continue their involvement in the operation of CLAPW until we feel that the agency is again able to independently meet our level and standards of care. I would like to thank Christine for her assistance during this time of transition. For further information, please feel free to contact her at 905-427-3300 or email@example.com.
