The Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 requires the Minister of Community and Social Services to have an accessibility standards advisory council.

Purpose

The Accessibility Standards Advisory Council advises the minister on the development of:

  • accessibility standards
  • education campaigns to help private and public sectors, as well as the general public, understand the goals and requirements of the act.

Membership

The minister appoints the members. They include a cross-section of leaders from the:

  • disability community
  • private sector
  • broader public sector.

The majority of the members represent the disability community.

Members serve for a term of up to three years.
