The ministry funds services and supports that help people who are:

  • homeless, or
  • at risk of becoming homeless.

The money goes to municipalities, who work with community agencies to develop programs that meet local needs.

These programs include:

Consolidated Homelessness Prevention Program

  • provides a variety of supports to help people who are "hard to house" or at risk of becoming homeless

Domiciliary hostels

  • provide accommodation and supports for people with mental health issues, addiction issues, developmental disabilities or those who are elderly and frail

Emergency hostels

  • provides short-term lodging and supports for people who are homeless (municipalities and the ministry share the per diem costs)

Emergency Energy Fund

  • helps low-income Ontarians who are facing energy-related emergencies, such as:
    • utility arrears
    • security deposits, and
    • reconnection costs for electricity, hydro, natural gas, oil and other forms of energy.
