- Provide as much information as possible in the registration package. This information is used to enforce and maintain your support order.
- When you are contacting the Family Responsibility Office (FRO), make sure you have your Personal Identification Number (PIN) number and FRO case number with you.
- For updated information on your case you can call the automated information line at 1-800-267-7263, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Have your FRO case number and PIN on hand.
- Advise the FRO of any changes to your name, address or telephone number to ensure that we can reach you when necessary to discuss your case and help you get your support payments.
- Advise the FRO if you have any new information about the support payor such as a new name, address, telephone number or job.
- If you believe that support has ended, you should advise the FRO as soon as possible.
- When you receive a letter from the FRO requesting that you confirm or deny that support has ended, it is important to respond. Failure to do so may jeopardize the enforcement of your support order.
- If the support payor is using a different name from the one on the support order, it could make some of FRO’s enforcement actions ineffective. If a support payor has used a different name than the one on the support order, you will need to change the support order to reflect the new name.
- If you need to change your support order, you may want to seek legal advice from a lawyer. You can contact Legal Aid Ontario at 416-979-1446 or toll-free at 1-800-668-8258. You can also meet with duty counsel at the court or visit the Family Law Information Centre located in provincial courts across Ontario. For information on the nearest location, or to obtain Ontario Family Court Forms please go to www.ontariocourts.on.ca.
- If you need help finding a lawyer you can contact the Lawyer Referral Service, operated by the Law Society of Upper Canada, for a half-hour consultation ($6.00 charge for the telephone call), at 1-900-565-4577.
