WHY WE ARE MAKING ONTARIO ACCESSIBLE

People with disabilities should have the same kind of opportunities as everyone else. They should be able to move around from place to place, go shopping, get a job, eat out, go to school or visit a doctor without facing barriers that people without disabilities wouldn’t face.

That’s what we mean by an accessible society.

And that’s the goal of Ontario’s accessibility laws. The legislation is the framework by which we will:

  • gain a greater understanding of the barriers that people with disabilities face every day in their own communities
  • identify, remove and prevent barriers to accessibility — obstacles that stop people with disabilities from doing the things most of us do without thinking, and
  • work together — the business community, the public sector, the not-for-profit sector and citizens of all abilities — to build a stronger, more inclusive society where everyone can have the opportunity to reach their full potential.
