ENABLING CHANGE PARTNERSHIP PROGRAM - HERE'S WHAT WE DID IN 2006!

Through the EnAbling Change Partnership Program, we are working with businesses – small, medium and large – and non-profit organizations to help get ready for the changes ahead.

Here’s what we’ve done over the past year.

Ontario Chinese Restaurant and Food Services Association

  • developed an outreach and education campaign for the Chinese retail and restaurant sectors

Canadian Standards Association

  • through its Building Champions program, the Canadian Standards Association worked with seven businesses to develop and test a voluntary customer service standard for businesses to use when serving customers with disabilities. The organizations were:
    • Cineplex Entertainment
    • The Shaw Festival
    • Eatertainment (including Toronto’s Panorama Restaurant and Bloor Street Diner)
    • Delta Chelsea Hotel, Toronto
    • Sears Canada
    • Wal-Mart
    • Wendy’s Restaurants Canada

Toronto Association of Business Improvement Areas (TABIA)

  • worked with the Ontario Business Improvement Areas Association and the Ministry of Community and Social Services to establish the Ontario Mainstreet Accessibility Awards to recognize businesses who are leading the way in accessibility

Ontario Chamber of Commerce

  • worked with VISA Canada to establish a new award program called the VISA Accessibility Award. The award recognizes a business leader who is a catalyst for change

Media Access Participation (MAP)

  • an initiative by the media industry to encourage the film and television industry to portray people with disabilities in positive and active roles

Social and Enterprise Development Innovations (SEDI)

  • developed an online e-learning program to help businesses in northern and rural areas of Ontario learn more about accessibility and how to serve customers with disabilities

Link Up Employment Services

  • developed an employment handbook to help businesses and organizations make their hiring and employment practices accessible

Ontario Community Support Association

  • developed and hosted four fully accessible forums in Ottawa, London, Toronto and Thunder Bay for the voluntary sector
