ABOUT OUR PROGRAMS, SERVICES AND SUPPORTS

The Ministry of Community and Social Services works to ensure that effective and accountable community services are directed to Ontario’s most vulnerable citizens.

Working with non-profit agencies and municipalities, the ministry funds a number of community-based supports and services that help:

  • victims of domestic violence and their children;
  • homeless people;
  • adults who are deaf, deaf-blind, deafened or hard of hearing;
  • Aboriginal peoples; and
  • others who are otherwise socially disadvantaged or marginalized.

These programs are designed to help them live as independently as possible in the community.

  • The objectives of these programs include:
  • assisting vulnerable individuals to obtain and retain housing to live independently in the community with supports and services geared to their needs;
  • reducing the need for more costly intervention services; and
  • helping vulnerable individuals to access community-based services

As a partner in the Aboriginal Healing and Wellness Strategy, the ministry contributes to the funding of over 250 programs to reduce family violence and improve the health status of Aboriginal peoples.

The ministry also develops and maintains the legislative and policy framework for adoption information disclosure and social work and social service work.
