HOW TO REGISTER A DOMESTIC CONTRACT WITH THE FRO

If you have a Domestic Contract and would like the Family Responsibility Office (FRO) to enforce the terms of your contract on your behalf, you can register with the FRO.

To have your Domestic Contract registered and enforced by the FRO you will need to:

  1. File your Domestic Contract with the Ontario Court of Justice or Superior Court of Justice (Family Court).
  2. At the court, you will be required to complete the form entitled Affidavit for Filing Domestic Contract or Paternity Agreement with Court. This form is also known as Family Law Rules [Form 26B].
  3. Complete the Family Responsibility Office Registration Package and attach a stamped copy of your domestic contract showing that it has been filed with the Ontario Court of Justice or the Family Court of the Supreme Court of Justice Family Court.  A sworn “Affidavit for Filing of Domestic Contract” must also be attached.  Send all information to:

    The Family Responsibility Office
Ministry of Community and Social Services
    PO Box 220
    Downsview ON M3M 3A3

When the FRO receives your completed package, the case will be registered. This will mean that you are authorizing the FRO to enforce your support order.  You will be assigned a seven digit case number along with a Personal Identification Number (PIN).  The PIN will be unique to you, and will allow you to access information on the FRO automated information line 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Both the recipient (the person receiving the payment) and the payor (the person making the payment) will receive an official acknowledgment that the case has been registered with the FRO as well as information explaining the role of the FRO and the responsibilities of both the recipient and the payor. If a support payor does not begin making support payments after registration of the Domestic Contract the FRO will take steps to collect the support using the available enforcement tools.
