FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

If you qualify, Ontario Works can provide you with money to help you cover the costs of your basic needs (e.g. food) and housing costs. This is called financial assistance.

The amount of money you may receive from Ontario Works will depend on your:

  • family size
  • income
  • assets, and
  • housing costs.

Calculating the amount of money you may get is complicated. Start by using the Eligibility Estimator to find out if you may qualify for Ontario Works benefits. Depending on your outcome, you may be required to contact your local Ontario Works office either by phone or in person. Use the Social Assistance Office Locator to find an office near you. Ontario Works staff will talk with you about your situation and you can decide if you want to complete an application.

(You can also refer to the Ontario Works policy directives or Ontario Works General Regulation 134/98. The Regulation is posted on the Government of Ontario e-Laws website.)

Other help you may receive

If you qualify for Ontario Works, you may also be eligible to receive a variety of other benefits such as:

  • prescription drug and dental coverage
  • eyeglasses
  • diabetic supplies
  • moving or eviction costs
  • employment-related costs
