CHILD AND FAMILY SERVICES ACT

R.S.O. 1990, c. C.11, Sections 162 – 174 inclusive

Sections 162 – 174 of the Child and Family Services Act provide for the appointment of the Registrar of Adoption Information, the adoption disclosure register and the right to request certain searches and non-identifying information related to adoption. Most of the adoption disclosure provisions of this Act are being repealed with the staged proclamation of the Adoption Information Disclosure Act, 2005. When the Adoption Information Disclosure Act, 2005 is proclaimed in full, it will allow, subject to certain restrictions, an adopted person who is at least 18 years old to obtain a copy of his or her original birth registration and adoption order from the Registrar General of the Ministry of Government Services. As well, the Act will allow, subject to certain restrictions, the birth parent of an adopted person who is at least 19 years old to obtain from the Registrar General information about the adopted person.
