The Developmental Services Act authorizes the funding of institutional services and facilities, group homes, respite services, community participation supports, specialized services, and Special Services at Home for people with developmental disabilities. (With the exception of long-term care programs and services administered by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.)
This Act received Royal Assent on March 28, 1974 and came into force on April 1, 1974. Amendments were made with the passage of the Homes for Retarded Persons Repeal Act, 2001, proclaimed in force on November 30, 2001. Amendments were also made in 2002 and proclaimed in force on January 1, 2003.
The Developmental Services Act R.R.O 1990, Regulation 272 , contains a number of important provisions for the health, safety and well-being of people with a developmental disability living in ministry-funded facilities.
