R.S.O. 1990, c. M.20
The Ministry of Community and Social Services Act defines the mandate and scope of MCSS activity. It has provisions governing the operation of the Social Assistance Review Board, and it also enables the funding of other programs: social and community services, social planning, attendant care and services and work incentive programs.
Responsibility for the administration of the Act is shared with the Ministry of Children and Youth Services. That ministry administers the Act in so far as it relates to activities and programs respecting children and youth services.
The Act was originally named the Department of Social and Family Services Act, 1967, received Royal Assent on March 22, 1967, and came into force on the same date. In 1972, the Act changed to become the Ministry of Community and Social Services Act. It received Royal Assent on May 26, 1972 and came into force on the same date.
