New Ontario Government Helps Make Services Faster, More Efficient

The Ontario Family Responsibility Office is modernizing its computer system to automate a number of manual processes and provide better service for clients.

The system upgrades will take place from March 29 to April 3, 2013. Once in place, the new system will result in better, quicker and more consistent service for all Family Responsibility Office clients.

Providing faster, more efficient services for people who rely on the Family Responsibility Office supports the new Ontario government’s efforts to create a fair society and make life easier for families across the province.

Quick facts

  • To minimize the effect to clients, most of the work will be done over Easter weekend (March 29 to April 1). The system will be down only for two business days – April 2 and 3.
  • Support payments usually processed during this period may be delayed. Clients who may be affected have been notified and will be given first priority once services are restored on April 4.
  • The Family Responsibility Office enforces child and domestic support orders, and collects and distributes support payments for families.
  • The Family Responsibility Office’s current system is more than 25 years old. The new system is part of its ongoing efforts to improve client service.
  • In recent years, the Family Responsibility Office also moved to a new client service model, which gives clients direct access to their case contact, and streamlines the registration of court orders to reduce delays.
